Olympic Challenge

The Gold Challenge is a unique opportunity for you to feel part of the excitement of the London 2012 by taking on multiple Olympic and Paralympic Sports whilst raising funds for HOPE.

There are three different types of Challenge which you can enter, either as an individual or as part of a team. They are:

  • 2012 km Challenge
  • Olympic Sport Challenge 
  • Gold Challenge in a Gym

 How They Work:

2012 km Challenge

Step 1 - Decide on your distance

  • 2012 km
  • 201.2 km
  • 20.12 km

Step 2- Complete the target distance either on your own or as part of a team by participating in a selection of the following events:

  • Running (jogging, road-running, on a treadmill or on a track)
  • Walking (on a treadmill, on a track, rambling or hillwalking)
  • Cycling (in a gym, on a track, on the roads or off-road)
  • Swimming (in a pool or in open water)
  • Canoeing/Kayaking (inland or offshore)
  • Horse riding
  • Rowing (on a rowing machine or on water)
  • Sailing (inland or offshore)
  • Windsurfing (inland and offshore)
  • Wheelchair (track, road or in a gym)

Olympic Sport Challenge

Simply enter on your own or as a team and choose to compete in your choice of  5,10,20 or 30 sports. So whether your challenge is testing yourself in multiple new sports, pushing yourself to the next level within your favourite sport or creating the most extreme sports challenge ever , the Gold Challenge is the ultimate way to get into the Olympic spirit.

Once you know which sports you or your team want to do just visit the Gold Challenge website and use the details to contact the club, coach or event and arrange to do your sport.  

Sports are completed by:

  1. doing at least three hours of coaching in that sport; or
  2. taking part in a competitive event.

As you complete each sport you will be awarded a certificate in recognition of your accomplishment.

Gold Challenge in a Gym

To participate in Gold Challenge you don't have to even leave your gym. Whether you're a fitness fanatic or just looking to keep a well balanced healthy lifestyle you can partake on your own or with a group of friends and take on the following challenge.

The aim is to complete one of the following routines with doing each distance back to back in as fast a time as possible. When you have completed the challenge you can upload your times under your profile on the Gold Challenge website.

 

Sport Sprint Endurance Ultra
Walk 0.5km 1km  2km 
Cycle 10km 20km  40km
Row 2km 4km  8km
Run 2.5km 5km  10km 
Swim 400m 800m  1500km

 

This challenge is a great way to test your fitness and push yourself in multiple disciplines.

Will I get help and support from HOPE?

Even though everything you need is available on the Gold Challenge website, our fundraisers will be there to help you every step of the way, so please keep us updated on your progress! Once you've registered, you will join an event and track your progress in the My Challenge section of the Gold Challenge website. There are league tables to motivate you in your chosen sport and once you've completed a sport, they'll send you a medal and certificate. 

FAQs

What level of fitness do I need to complete the Gold Challenge?

All you need to complete the Gold Challenge is:

  • A wish to raise money for a great cause.
  • An enthusiasm for trying something new

The Gold Challenge is for everyone with any level of ability and fitness and you can enter most sports regardless of your level of fitness. Unless you're doing the 30 sport challenge - you choose which sports you complete, so you can tailor your challenge to fit your abilities.

How long will it take me to complete the Gold Challenge?

The Gold Challenge officially ends on 31st December 2012, so you have from whenever you start your challenge until that date to complete it. However, it will all depend on to how many sports you take on, how much time you have to put into it, and what personal deadlines you set yourself. That's what makes the Gold Challenge such a different and amazing Charity Challenge - you set your own targets according to your capabilities.
