"Education is a human right with immense power to transform" Kofi Annan

Education is the foundation to a happy, healthy and positive childhood, and it’s the single most effective way to alleviate
poverty, yet there are still an estimated 61 million primary school-age children still out of school.

  • Every year of education increases potential future income by 10%

  • 2 out of 3 illiterate people in the world are women

  • Only 53% of teachers in Ghana have any formal training

The Head Held High appeal was raising funds to transform the lives at least 1,500 children living in poverty by ensuring they have access to a quality education.

Without an education, children as young as 6 years are often forced to work in fields, pick scraps or are exposed to the daily dangers of wandering the streets or slums they live in.

UK Aid Match funds, along with donations by the UK public, will support our education projects in remote, northern Ghana and East Africa where child labour and gender inequality are still major barriers to children accessing education.

The Head Held High appeal will provide essential school books & uniforms, as well as activities like workshops championing girls' right to education, and teacher training programmes.

As a result of these simple solutions, thousands of disadvantaged children will be given the tools to create a future of pride, confidence, and the knowledge to break the poverty cycle.
