#GivingTuesday – 5 Ways to Support the Head Held High Appeal

By Ed Fletcher

With less than a week to go, Tuesday 28th November 2017 marks the fourth annual #GivingTuesday in the UK, and it’s set to be the biggest yet.

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fuelled by the power of social media and collaboration. Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.), Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday also kicks off the charitable Christmas season.

To mark this day, we’ve come up with 5 things you can do on #GivingTuesday to support our Head Held High appeal, that’s raising funds to improve access to education for at least 1,500 vulnerable children in Ghana & East Africa.

1. Treble Your Donation on Facebook

All donations to the Head Held High Appeal will be matched, pound for pound, by the UK Government. On #GivingTuesday only, Facebook will also match all donations made through Facebook Fundraising**, so this Tuesday you have the chance to treble the value of your donation. You can either create your own fundraiser or go to our Facebook page and donate to ours.

2. Make Your Secret Santa Mean Something

Every Christmas, we are faced with the office Secret Santa moment, the awkward exchange of gifts that can be stressful to buy and inevitably spend the rest of the year in a drawer. This Christmas, use your Secret Santa to provide the uniform and school books a child needs to attend school for a whole year (just £12!) on behalf of someone…now that’s a present to remember.

3. Sign Up to the Santa Run Before It’s Too Late

On Saturday 9th December, thousands of Santa’s will descend on Battersea Park to walk, jog or run 5km around this beautiful London park. Registrations close on Thursday 30th November so you and your friends can still sign up. Once you’ve registered, set up your fundraising page and all funds you raise will be matched by the UK Government.

4. Join our Monthly Giving Community & Make a Commitment to Creating Stories of Hope

We’re lucky to have a small community of generous supporters who donate to us every month. These incredible people help us to transform the lives of vulnerable children all year round. As a result, every month we’re able to create brand new Stories of Hope. Be amazing this Christmas and sign up to regular giving - whether it’s £3, £10 or more, every donor is equally important to us.

5. Give the Greatest Gift of All - Start a Christmas Fundraiser

At this festive time of year, presents are flying around left, right and centre. Many say that the only better thing than receiving a gift is giving one. This Christmas, you can combine the 2 by setting up a fundraising page and asking people to donate what they would usually spend on presents to our Head Held High Appeal. You’ll be giving thousands of children the gift of education – the best gift of all.

So there you have it, your 5 ways to get involved with #GivingTuesday. Spread the word, share this article with friends, family and colleagues, and help us bring quality education to at least 1,500 children in Africa this Christmas.

**All donations made through Facebook’s charitable giving tools on November 28th, starting at 12am local time in the UK, will be matched up to £10K per charity and £400 per fundraiser or donate button -and will continue matching donations to charities -until the £200K in matching funds runs out.
