Having completed their Three Peaks 24 hour challenge on Saturday 6th June, our team of five Royal Engineers are back and this is what one of the team, John Matthews, had to say about their incredible challenge:

“We started at 4:00am Friday after an 11 hour drive to get to Ben Nevis. We managed to climb Ben Nevis in four hours, before a five hour drive to the second peak, Scafell Pike, which we completed in three hours. At this point we were comfortably within the time frame.

We arrived at Snowdon, the third and final peak, at 11:30pm. Everyone was in high spirits because we had so much time it seemed like it was going to be a walk in the park…. But this was before the mist came down in the darkness! We ascended the mountain with head torches on and battled against a gale force wind that tried everything it could to stop us completing our challenge.

However, there was still hope for the children yet as we summited Snowdon and then made our way back down finishing at 3:30am – with just half an hour to spare!”

They made it in less than 24 hours. What an achievement!
