Our Philippines partner Pangarap Foundation, recently ran its annual Sports Festival for disadvantaged children and young people. This was a fantastic event which over a 3-day period, provided an opportunity for them to make new friendships, improve their self-confidence and communications skills whilst most importantly just having fun!
The 2016 Sports Festival was comprised of three events – the Opening Ceremony, including the parade of competitors in their teams. This was followed by the welcome to the participants, together with the rules and timetable for each activity. The 2nd event was the Competition itself, where the children took part in sports such as basketball, volleyball, table-tennis and chess.
The final, much anticipated event was the Awards and Closing Ceremony, where the winners and podium finishers in every category were announced, with medals and certificates handed out. Special awards were also given to Best Overall Competitor, Best Example of Sportsmanship, Best Team Manager and Best Team. An Award of Appreciation was also given to the Best Organising Committee and Best Volunteer Team.
After yet another successful year, it will soon be time to plan for 2017!
