Derrick is a courageous 16-year old boy from the slum of Namuwongo in Uganda. He is an inspirational child who has faced significant hardship in his youth, not least because of his height, which has meant he has been bullied throughout his childhood.
Winnie is a loving 40-year-old mother from a Maasai community in the Longido region of Tanzania. She used to live happily with her husband and 4 daughters, making a living from the family’s 8 acres of land and the livestock they reared on the land.
Isabel is a thirteen year old little girl who lives with her 3 siblings, and her mum and dad. Her dad works construction when he can to support Isabel and the family, although often finds himself out of work.
Mariam is a tenacious, playful 10 year old girl from northern Ghana, a remote part of the country that is vastly less developed compared to the South. She lives with her mother and sisters, who she loves to play with; her father passed away when she was just a baby.
Allan is a 13 year old boy from the slum of Namuwongo, Uganda. He has a set of younger twin siblings who live with his parents, and used to have older brothers and sisters but does not know where they live anymore.
