Universities & Students

The experience of a lifetime, your uni transforming the lives of children

We work with students and RAGs from across the country through our university programme, Your Uni, Their Lives, to create life-changing experiences like climbing Mt Kilimanjaro and visiting our projects.

Thanks to our student and RAG supporters, each year our programme - Your Uni, Their Lives - raises hundreds of thousands of pounds that enables us to support vulnerable children around the world. Here's what we're doing with universities this year:

Mount Kilimanjaro

Mt. Kilimanjaro is one of the most impressive sights in Africa and summiting it is one of the all time greatest achievements. It is the highest mountain in Africa and the largest free standing mountain in the world. The feeling you get as you climb Mt. Kilimanjaro and watch the sun rise over the vast African plains is truly an incredible experience. You'll also have the amazing opportunity to visit one of the life-changing projects that you have helped in Tanzania!

Everest Base Camp

The Everest Base Camp trek is probably one of the most famous in the world, one that every keen trekker should consider taking at some point in their lives. It is without a doubt one of the most challenging treks to take on, but the sheer thrill and sense of achievement you experience as you arrive at the base of Mount Everest is hard to equal.

Machu Picchu

Follow in the footsteps of the Inca as you cross the high Peruvian Andes in search of Machu Picchu, the Lost City. The trek route departs from the bustling colonial mountain town of Cusco and winds its way through breathtaking mountain passes, past sacred mountains and on through humid jungle trails to reach the fabled ruins of Machu Picchu. Our trek takes you over the less travelled route of the high pass of Salkantay Mountain, a truly remarkable experience, which crosses a diverse range of terrain along the way.

Morocco Trek

In the far north west corner of Africa, perched between the Atlantic Ocean and the Sahara desert, lies Morocco. A place characterised by the smell of incense, narrow labyrinths of ancient souks and rolling golden dunes. The journey to the High Atlas Mountains gives you the chance to explore the rocky gorges and high altitude settlements that have populated the area for centuries. Reaching 4,167m above sea level at the peak of Mount Toubkal this trek is both a mental and physical challenge.

Fire & Ice Trek

Experience the incredible natural beauty of Iceland as you trek over mountain passes, past active volcanoes and across glaciated lakes. Starting and finishing from the capital city of Reykjavík and taking on the famous Landmannalaugar route you will take in much of the south of the island.

Guatemala Volcanic Trek

To the west of Guatemala City lies the highland area of Central America. Boasting picturesque views across a string of volcanic peaks, this multi-day hiking adventure is a one of a kind experience. You will get to relax in natural thermal springs, summit the highest point in Central America (an impressive height of 4220m) and spend some time on the beautiful shores of Lake Atitlan and even toast marshmallows on molten lava flows. This is a challenge which has it all.

“Working with Hope for Children is a dream. They have this uncanny ability to transform students who want to do something, into students who want to do something good, students who want to make a difference, students who want to and probably will, change the world.”

Emma Smith, Activities & Development Manager, Bournemouth University

So how can you get involved...

Apply to be an Ambassador

Our network of Student Ambassadors are the heartbeat of our student programme, Your Uni, Their Lives. Our accredited Ambassador programme ensures that the time and effort you put into leading teams on international expeditions or organising on-campus fundraising events develops key skills that will make you a top graduate.

Become a RAG Partner

For many years now, RAG partners have raised millions of pounds to enable us to support thousands of children across the world. By working in partnership and providing outstanding support, we can help new RAGs to grow or larger RAGs to expand and flourish.

Take part in a Challenge

Every year, hundreds of students take part in challenge events, from climbing Mt Kilimanjaro to trekking through the Himalayas. Taking part in a Hope for Children challenge event is the perfect way to make new friends, have a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and have a transformational impact on children.
